Prototyping is simply a mechanism to demonstrate functionality. It is kind of similar to Experience design. It is basically a draft version of an application or a product that enables you to explore the ideas or intention of designing or creating the product before investing a lot of money in it. This draft can be anything from a sketch on a piece of paper to a well-defined application where you can click and explore various aspects and features of that product. Usually, a paper sketch or diagram is the quickest method of prototyping. You only need a pen or pencil, paper, ruler, scissors, and sticky notes. This might not be very enriched or engaging but it is definitely the fastest way to get feedback on your ideas, design, architecture, or content.
